STEPS TO AVOID WATER STAGNATION
- Routinely flush your water systems.
- Keep hot water hot and cold water cold. Safe water temperatures prevent waterborne pathogens from growing and leaching from contaminants such as lead and copper.
- Monitor temperature, disinfectant levels, and microbiological analysis.
- If none of the above are possible, recommission your water systems following AWWA disinfection standards as if they were newly constructed or being recommissioned after being dormant, before the building is reoccupied at normal occupancy levels and the water systems return to use.
- Create a Water Management Plan, and be sure to address water stagnation.
- Document all activities.
